DND confirms Canadian Armed Forces tracking Russian warships near Cuba

 The Department of National Defence (DND) of Canada has confirmed that the Canadian Armed Forces are actively tracking the movements of a Russian fleet that recently reached Cuban waters. This fleet includes the Kazan nuclear submarine, which arrived at the port of Havana on June 12, 2024. The Russian naval presence in the Caribbean is ahead of planned military exercises in the region.

The arrival of the Russian fleet in Cuba, consisting of a nuclear-powered submarine, an oil tanker, and a rescue tug, follows their drills in the Atlantic Ocean. This movement highlights the longstanding alliance between Russia and Cuba, a relationship that has persisted since the Cuban revolution in the late 1950s.
